Giving Compass' Take:

• In this video from Climate One, Stanford's Katharine Mach discusses why she sets the goal for limiting global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius. One reason is that, after we see warming of more than 1.5 degrees, ecosystems will reach states they are unlikely to return from.

• Mach points out the "unevenness" of the impacts of global warming. How can climate advocates encourage those who are not necessarily affected to collaborate on a solution?

Warming limits of two degrees Celsius were established in part using the climate impacts we're already seeing, such as ice shelf collapse and flooding, explains Katharine Mach.

"We're now pursuing a limit of well below two degrees Celsius and with 1.5 degrees Celsius in sight. So in some ways where that came from was, first of all, a recognition of the degree to which climate change impacts are already happening."
