Misinformation on Facebook, emerging violence, and the challenge of motivating students are some of the bigger problems confronting humanity at the moment. The world needs ways to spread information that are mentally stimulating. I’ve been piecing an idea together for a few years now. I’m calling it the “conversation game” ...
You need 2 people. Find another person or reach out to me and we’ll try it together over Skype. One person is the guide and the other is the learner.
Find something you want to learn. A wikipedia page, a medium post, a couple pages in a book or textbook, a news story, a summary of a sports event, whatever.
The guide walks the learner through the material, with the goal of the learner committing the important points (i.e. facts) to memory. You can write down the facts in advance (or highlight them with a marker), or pull them out as you go along.
Two people left to converse and give their opinions tend to devolve into undisciplined banter. It’s the facts that keep things grounded and on task. They give you an objective sense of accomplishment when you’re done. Having memorized them proves you weren’t zoning out, are capable of cogently describing the material to someone, and will pass the test (if there is one).
