It’d be hard to find someone who would challenge that one of the biggest pillars within the Latinx community is its desire to continuously give back. At the Latino Community Foundation, Sara Lomelin Velten, the VP of Philanthropy, is banking on the community’s desire to give and support noteworthy causes.

“I joined the Latino Community Foundation in 2011, but it was when the Latino Giving Circle Network started to expand in 2015 that I found my passion: transforming regular people into philanthropists,” explains Lomelin Velten. “[I work to make people] realize that the generosity that they have always had is called philanthropy and that by giving collectively and in a strategic way, they can have a stronger impact and change how small grassroots nonprofits get funded.”

The Foundation utilizes giving circles — pools of money that are then reinvested into vetted cause driven organizations — to harness the power of Latinx giving.
