Stephanie Vermaas is the CEO and founder of TIALS, This Is A Love Song, an activewear and intimates brand. At the age of 23 she had found a lump in her left breast. As Vermaas went through process to diagnose her lump, it opened her eyes to breast cancer awareness especially for young women.
It became an experience that stuck with Vermaas as she grew her business. The TIALS customer is primarily millennial women so Vermaas wanted to bring awareness to breast cancer through education, prevention and detection through TIALS top selling item- sports bras.
Last year TIALS created the campaign, TIALSPINK, in collaboration with the American Breast Cancer Foundation. Every sale of the pink sports bra went to support the organization. The campaign was so popular that Vermaas decided to leave the TIALSPINK sports bra available for purchase all year round.
Vermaas explains why including philanthropic endeavors into your business as an entrepreneur is vital to your personal and professional growth:
Robert: Why is it important to be philanthropic as an entrepreneur?
Vermaas: As an entrepreneur, you are building a business because you aim to solve a problem. That being said, when you have that choice from the beginning, why not also make sure that your decisions can also impact the planet and our society in a positive way? You have the power to to write your story.
Robert: Why is raising breast cancer awareness important for TIALS?
Vermaas: It is important to us because one out of eight women are affected by breast cancer. TIALS is women's wear brand that stands behind loving and caring for your body and wellbeing. When we create awareness, we are educating women which creates empowerment.
