In order to extensively understand the healthcare status in the United States today, let us first have an overview by taking a glimpse at the various health determinants. In a review initiated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a number of health determinants were evaluated and analyzed. These included life expectancy and mortality, fertility and natality, health risk factors for the non-institutionalized population, and measures of health and disease with the presentation of the prevalence for the non-institutionalized population. Moreover, other significant indicators were also examined, including the utilization of health resources for the non-institutionalized population, health care resources, and the health care expenditures and payers.
As described in the report, "United States Health Care Reform: Progress to Date and Next Steps," the ACA has contributed to vital developments toward reforming the long-standing challenges faced by our country’s healthcare system. Therefore, it is imperative that there be a continuing implementation of the Act to further influence the health insurance marketplaces and to facilitate delivery system reform.
