During a time of goal setting and New Year's Resolutions, it's time to examine the changes you're making. Maybe you're working on better wellness, getting financially fit, or even starting a new business. Any positive change should be celebrated, as it's a sign of progress and growth. But from one social entrepreneur to you, consider adding generosity to your list of resolutions.

There's much to be done around the world, and social entrepreneurs represent the group of people working to make it happen. Not only do we need your help, but so does your neighbor, community and family. Here's how to get going.

Start giving. Don't make it complicated, just start small and start somewhere. You can give financially or give your time — it all matters. Donate an hour, $10 or an hour of your wages. It all adds up, and it makes a difference no matter the amount. But for generosity to become a regular part of your life, it takes intention and action.

Stop wasting. Take time to clean up your finances, and think about how your new savings can be reallocated to do good in the world. Even if you find $10 to spare, it matters. Rather than wasting it, put it to work.

Practice gratitude. The benefits of gratitude are many, but it will help you become more patient, generous and altruistic. Start incorporating a small dose of gratitude to your day. Whether you use it as a lifeline during difficult moments or journal every morning, it will make a difference over time.
