Volunteer Opportunities with MADD’s Victim Impact Panel (VIP) Program

The MADD Victim Impact Panel (VIP) Program is a meaningful way to prevent impaired driving crashes by connecting offenders, victims, and community advocates in a restorative justice setting. Volunteers are vital to organizing, facilitating, and sharing impactful stories that inspire change.


Why Join the VIP Program?

Purpose of the VIP Program:
Victim Impact Panels help offenders understand the devastating effects of impaired driving, reducing future offenses through the power of personal stories and education.

Your Impact:

  • Make a Difference: Prevent future tragedies by educating participants about the consequences of impaired driving.
  • Support Healing: Sharing a story or facilitating a panel can foster healing and turn pain into purpose.
  • Strengthen Communities: Funds raised through VIP programs support local prevention efforts and victim services throughout Michigan.

Volunteer Roles Available:

Speakers

  • Share your personal story of how impaired driving has affected your life to educate and inspire change.
  • Help offenders understand the consequences of their actions and prevent future tragedies.
  • Time Commitment: Minimum 5 hours per month with a one-year commitment.

Facilitators

  • Support the VIP program without sharing a personal story.
  • Assist in managing logistics, ensuring smooth event execution, and creating a safe space for speakers and participants.
  • Passion for MADD’s mission is essential.
  • Time Commitment: Minimum 5 hours per month with a one-year commitment.

Victim Impact Panel Coordinator

  • Take on a leadership role in organizing and implementing VIP events.
  • Work closely with MADD staff to plan schedules, recruit speakers, secure venues, and oversee logistics.
  • Provide ongoing emotional support and referrals to speakers and victims, ensuring their needs are met.
  • Build connections with community partners to enhance VIP effectiveness.
  • Time Commitment: Minimum 10 hours per month with a one-year commitment.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Background check and completion of MADD’s virtual training.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Non-judgmental attitude and sensitivity to victims/survivors.
  • Reliable transportation and flexible availability (evening hours often required).
  • Must be 18+ for coordinator or facilitator roles.

Priority Locations: Novi, Westland, Howell
Volunteer orientation and training will be conducted virtually, with events held in your local community.
