To solve the world’s biggest problems, we need to direct as much money and talent towards them as possible. We need a community of people who are bright, motivated and trying to do as much good as they can. They also need the ability, time, and incentives to work on whatever seems most important. We think effective altruism could be such a community, and therefore investing in it could be very high impact.
Investing in the effective altruism (EA) community can mean several different things in practice:
- Encouraging more people to donate to or work on the problems that currently seem most pressing (see our other cause profiles);
- Communicating the fundamental ideas of effective altruism, so that more people are motivated and able to seek out the highest-impact opportunities;
- Investing in the community of people already dedicated to effective altruism, to increase their ability to do good. This could involve providing training, working to create a cohesive community, or funding skill development.
