Civic engagement among African Americans ages 50 and older is influenced by a host of factors but the top predictors are household income and education level. Generally, the higher their household income and education level, the higher their overall level of civic engagement is likely to be.
Over the past year providing goods was a popular means of charitable giving for a majority of African Americans ages 50+. With the exception of those ages 50-59, giving cash donations was also a popular form of charitable giving. Among those ages 50-59, sponsoring someone for a charitable event or cause was largely popular.
