The Independent Budget Office of the City of New York -- which is a site that provides city officials and the public with nonpartisan information on the budget and economy of New York City -- releases its Public School Indicator report each year.

With four being the highest level, just 1.5 percent of students who were severely chronically absent received a level four on the exam; 70.5 percent received a grade level one.

Students whose attendance rate is less than 90 percent are considered chronically absent, according to the Department of Education.

From grades three to eight, students were classified as being severely chronically absent, chronically absent or having good attendance and how it related to their math test scores.
