Giving Compass' Take:

• Epione Healthcare Solutions is trying to combat extreme poverty in South Africa by increasing access to much-needed treatments and preventions, reports Global Citizen.

• In what ways can Epione serve as a model for other healthcare efforts in Africa and around the world? Which methods are most effective when it comes to connecting patients with clinicians?

Here's more on what health funders are focusing on and what's next.

Epione Healthcare Solutions, which runs pop-up clinics and health drives in the heart of Soweto, is the result of a lot of hard work from four young people.

Garikai “Gaza” Govati, Jessica Chivinge, Farai Chikumbu, and Rhobhi Matinyi, felt it was their duty to do something to make a difference in their community.

So they launched Epione, to connect patients with clinicians, hospital facilities, and medical aid administrators — to make it easier for people to access healthcare.

Global Citizen spent this weekend with Epione, at a health drive in the heart of the Soweto community.

The health drive was set at up Protea Glen Mall, and consisted of different stations that focused on free primary care such as testing for blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, and body mass index (BMI), as well as HIV/AIDS.
