An Eye-Opening Look at U.S. Food & Ag Systems and How Today's Crises Were Created

Host Organization: Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems Funders

About

Many funders, investors and PSOs have reached out to SAFSF in the past two months for help in understanding the shocking COVID-19-related food and agriculture headlines and how they as funders should be responding. We are offering this webinar as an opportunity for all funders, but especially those with less agriculture and food systems funding experience, to gain historical context about systemic racism and inequity in the U.S. food system, and to discuss how philanthropic dollars can be shifted from treating the symptoms to more effectively address underlying structural issues.

We will touch in this webinar on how these issues directly connect to common funding priorities:
- root causes of food insecurity and solutions beyond food banks;
- how flawed agriculture and food systems contribute to racial and economic health disparities; and
- the critical role of place-based funding in support of local and regional food and farming systems.

Jen Zuckerman, Director of Strategic Initiatives at the World Food Policy Center at Duke University, and Ricardo Salvador, Director of the Food and Environment Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists, will lead the presentation and moderate an open discussion, so bring your questions!

NOTE: Registration for this webinar is limited to funders only.
Funders are considered those organizations using grantmaking or investments as a core strategy to fulfill their mission and who make grants or invest more than $50,000 annually.
