Complex Humanitarian Emergencies: Philanthropy’s Role in Recovery

Host Organization: Center for Disaster Philanthropy

About

More than 4 million people have left Venezuela in the last few years and 92 percent of the population lives in poverty. In Yemen, 3.6 million people have been displaced by conflict and more than 11 million struggle to find enough food. While other recent natural disasters have made the headlines worldwide, these complex humanitarian emergencies (CHEs) continue to garner little attention.

The Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP), with generous support from The UPS Foundation, is hosting a webinar about CHEs Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, 2 p.m. ET. Speakers will help funders understand how CHEs are different from other disasters, what recovery looks like during CHEs and how philanthropy can get more involved in supporting recovery efforts. The webinar is part of our new series focused on raising awareness of and responding to global disasters.

Panelists: (Additional panelists will be added as they are confirmed)

  • Joel Charny, Executive Director, Norwegian Refugee Council USA
  • Jeremy Konyndyk, Senior Policy Fellow, Center for Global Development
  • Carlos E. Mejia, Country Director for Oxfam in Colombia

This webinar is provided with generous funding from the UPS Foundation and is co-sponsored by the Council on Foundations, InterAction and the Funders’ Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities.
