Host Organization: Funders Together to End Homelessness – Los Angeles Network

About

Funders Together to End Homelessness – Los Angeles Network invites private philanthropic foundations to their next meeting on June 26. This session will explore the intersection between racial equity and homelessness, including how national funders are approaching the issue and local opportunities to address it.

We will be joined by a dynamic panel of guests, including Amanda Andere of Funders Together to End Homeless, who will share information on this national network and what she is seeing in the field; Marqueece Harris-Dawson, former nonprofit leader and LA City Councilman, who will share his insights on equity and homelessness in South Los Angeles; and Peter Lynn of Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, who will present on the latest Homeless Count.

Speakers:

  • Amanda Andere, Funders Together to End Homeless - Amanda Andere has spent over 14 years working in the nonprofit and public sector as a leader committed to addressing social justice, economic opportunity, and security through advocacy for systemic change. Prior to joining Funders Together to End Homelessness, she served as President/CEO of Wider Opportunities for Women, a national organization focused on advocacy, research, and policy to build pathways to economic security and equality of opportunity for women, families and elders. She is also an adjunct professor at George Mason University teaching Nonprofit Management.
  • Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Councilmember - Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson was sworn into office on July 1, 2015. A long-time community organizer in South LA, Harris-Dawson has deep roots in the community as he recently served as President and CEO of Community Coalition, one of the most progressive nonprofits in the city.
  • Peter Lynn, Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) - Peter Lynn is the Executive Director of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), lead agency of the LA Continuum of Care, coordinating and managing more than $220 million in federal and local homeless assistance funding. Prior to joining LAHSA, Lynn was the Director of Section 8 for the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) and ran the Section 8 program for the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development.
