Funders' Role in Nonprofit Capital Markets

Host Organization: Philanthropy MA

About

Steve Pratt of Impact Catalysts has been working for some time on helping funders and nonprofit leaders build a deeper understanding of financial sustainability--what it means and how to get there. He's written a number of thought pieces over the last 8 years, and he’s presented on various aspects of the topic for Philanthropy Massachusetts.

Steve’s latest work has focused on creating a working definition of nonprofit capital markets. We recently collaborated with Impact Catalysts and Project Bread on a study of revenue streams for food security organizations here in Massachusetts. The study represents an attempt to measure the size of the capital market for a particular social issue, and in so doing, to open up a broader discussion among donors about their role in capital markets.

As we continue to bring together foundation leaders to explore issues critical to effective philanthropy, we invite you to a discussion for funders led by Steve to discuss the nonprofit capital market concept in greater depth, both to see what more can be learned and to discuss how funders could use this framework in their philanthropy.

A light breakfast will be provided.
