How Grantmakers Can Support Movements

Host Organization: Grantmakers for Effective Organizations

About

Join GEO, NCRP and advocates in the field to break down what equitable partnerships between funders and active movements can look like: today, and long after movement work recedes from the headlines.

Movements have long driven major social and political shifts in the United States, bringing renewed awareness to languishing societal problems and catalyzing change previously thought impossible. Today, an increasing number of foundations realize that robust social movements are critical to long-term progress. Yet despite promising examples of long-term support and collaborative partnerships, many funders remain mystified by how movements work, let alone how they can support movement ecosystems for the issues and communities they care about.

The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically exacerbated the injustices movements already faced. They’re ready to work with philanthropy on the frontlines and to tackle what comes next. In this session, GEO, NCRP and advocates in the field will break down what equitable partnerships between funders and active movements can look like: today, and long after movement work recedes from the headlines.
