The Impact Compass: A New Model for Gauging Social Impact

Stanford Social Innovation Review

About

Presented by: Neil Malhotra and Bernadette Clavier
Moderated by: David V. Johnson
Date: Wednesday, November 8, 2017
Time: 11 a.m.-12 p.m. PT / 2-3 p.m. ET

Do you have a hard time explaining to people what social impact is, how it comes about, and how to quantify it? Now there is help. The Center for Social Innovation at the Stanford Graduate School of Business at Stanford University has examined the elements to consider when gauging impact potential, identified six key dimensions, and crafted a visual representation to explain them: The Impact Compass.

In this webinar, the Center’s Director Bernadette Clavier and Neil Malhotra, the Edith M. Cornell Professor of Political Economy in the Stanford Graduate School of Business, will share the framework they developed and how you can leverage it. You will leave this webinar with a blueprint that can help you prioritize your organization’s programs, determine where to invest philanthropic assets, better analyze seed-stage venture deals, and figure out your next career move. The panel will be moderated by David V. Johnson, senior editor of Stanford Social Innovation Review.

This webinar will explore:

  • A yardstick for donors to assess the potential of philanthropic ventures
  • A new method for nonprofit leaders to analyze and compare program opportunities to better allocate their limited resources
  • A visual framework for impact investors to evaluate the impact potential of companies in their portfolio
  • Important impact dimensions to keep in mind for those looking to work in an impact-focused role
