We’ve been talking about upcoming federal budget cuts since the New Year, but now the time is finally here. Congress is racing to meet September deadlines to raise the debt ceiling and pass a 2018 federal budget. Federal funding accounts for more than one-third of California’s state budget – the implications of the final budget will have immediate effects on our state. The anticipated cuts will affect housing, immigration, health, workforce, transportation, the arts and more.
How will cuts impact public service, communities and nonprofits? Given that philanthropy will not be able to fill all of the gaps, what are the best strategies to help the region prepare and respond?
Join the Peninsula Philanthropy Network for a reception with Congresswoman Jackie Speier to discuss how the proposed federal budget will impact nonprofits and the communities they serve. The Congresswoman will help us make sense of changes that will affect education, immigration, and low-income housing in the region. Learn what role philanthropy can play and the best strategies for partnering with all levels of government to mitigate the impact of potential cuts.
