Tonga Volcano and Tsunami Relief Fund

A large underwater volcano has erupted near Tonga causing a devastating tsunami to strike the island nation in the Pacific. Ash from the eruption has been sent miles into the sky and is falling across Tonga. GlobalGiving is working closely with our partners to get emergency support to impacted families in this time of need.

Information from Tonga remains very limited after communications were the island nation were damaged by the eruption and tsunami. Initial reports indicate that homes have been destroyed and at least three deaths have been reported. As GlobalGiving has learned from our response to disaster events around the world, it is vital to get funds to locally-led nonprofits that can respond to the community needs to provide both emergency relief as well as long-term recovery.

All donations to this fund will support relief and recovery efforts in Tonga and other countries impacted by the tsunami. Initially, the fund helps first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. As needs emerge, we will support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in the impacted area.
