Founded April 2012 after the tragic killing of 17-year old Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida, young Black, Latinx, and Arab youth marched from Daytona Beach Florida to Sanford Florida where Trayvon Martin was killed. Today, Dream Defenders, a project of Tides Advocacy and its partner organization, Dream Defenders Education Fund, continue to be a black freedom organization fighting for safety and a good life for all, training thousands of Black and Brown youth, young adults and students, through campaigns, voter engagement and registration, political education, services and the arts. Our agenda is called the Freedom Papers. Through it, they are advancing their vision of safety and security – away from prisons, deportation, and war – and towards healthcare, housing, jobs and movement for all.
