Mission

Lever for Change Equality Can't Wait Finalist

Family Values @ Work is a movement network of grassroots organizers and coalitions in more than two dozen states working toward economic, racial and gender justice. We have built power in key states and localities focused on winning policies that support workers and families including paid family and medical leave, earned sick and safe days, and affordable, high-quality childcare at the state and national levels.

We confront this nation’s long history of coerced and underpaid caregiving labor and counter it with demands for an economy based on care and equity.

Our grassroots movement is powered by the leadership of those most impacted, peer learning, and collaboration. FV@W promotes the leadership of women, low-wage workers, and workers of color at all points in a campaign to achieve transformative policy change, and actively engages underrepresented communities to build deep, long-term power.

Lever for Change Project Description
Family Values @ Work will scale their leadership development programs that help caregivers step into power while deepening their social justice feminist analysis and practice.

Launched in June 2020, Equality Can't Wait was a $40 million challenge to fund solutions to help expand women’s power and influence in the U.S. by 2030. The Challenge was hosted by Pivotal Ventures, Melinda French Gates’ investment and incubation company — with additional support from MacKenzie Scott and Dan Jewett, and Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Philanthropies. Five-hundred-and-fifty (550) proposals were submitted to the competition and were evaluated using four criteria: Whether the proposals were transformative, innovative, equitable, and feasible. The Equality Can't Wait Idea Lab features top projects from all submissions, as selected by a panel of experts and peers. Five Awardees were announced in July 2021: Four received $10 million each (Ada Developers Academy; Girls Inc.; Native Women Lead; National Domestic Workers Alliance), and one received $4 million (FreeFrom).
