Georgia STAND-UP
Mission
Established in 2004, Georgia Strategic Alliance for New Directions and Unified Policies (STAND-UP) a “think tank for working families,” is a social justice and community development organization with a mission to build strong, resilient neighborhoods while ensuring the benefits of that growth are equitably distributed. Led by CEO Deborah Scott, STAND-UP’s work is grounded in intensive research, civic education, leadership development, and grassroots organizing to build an active base for progressive transformation in Georgia and the South.
STAND-UP creates place-based programs that drive change by advocating for policies of inclusion and equity, especially programs that support workers and historically underserved populations. It undertakes bold initiatives to improve community capacity and builds functional infrastructure. The method is collaborative, uniting communities with faith, academic, public, private, and philanthropic sectors to increase civic awareness, shift power dynamics, and expand opportunity while reducing poverty, dependency, and social dysfunction.
