Michigan Liberation formed in August 2018 and immediately set to work building broad support for criminal justice reform in key precincts across Wayne, Oakland and Kalamazoo counties. Since then, Michigan Liberation has built a statewide network of people and organizations organizing to end the criminalization of Black families and communities of color in Michigan. To work towards a future for Michigan without mass incarceration or mass policing, Michigan Liberation conducts grassroots organizing, leadership development, and lobbying while supporting candidates who will be progressive champions for Michigan and promoting changes in all areas of the criminal legal system, including courts, prosecutors, policing, prisons, juvenile systems, re-entry and diversion programs, and parole.
