Mission

The purpose of the corporation is to educate and empower members of the community in East Harlem and encourage them to develop leadership skills and strategies to fight for justice in their community, including with respect to the rights of tenants and immigrants. In furtherance of this charitable purpose, the corporation shall: a. Organize and mobilize community members in East Harlem to fight for their rights, particularly as tenants and as immigrants; b. Provide support to community members dealing with tenant or immigrant related issues; and c. Carry out community-wide consultations, workshops and clinics, public education campaigns and other events. The corporation shall not operate for the purpose of carrying on a trade or business for profit. The corporation is organized, and shall be operated, exclusively for charitable, cultural, literary and educational purposes in the United States within the meaning of 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, as it may be amended.
