Help Street Dogs in Dharamsala and Save Lives

Host Organization: Dharamsala Animal Rescue North Kingstown, RI, United States http://www.dharamsalaanimalrescue.org/

About

Dharamsala Animal Rescue (DAR) provides a humane environment for street dogs with direct benefits to the communities of Dharamsala, India. We work to end the human/street dog conflict through our programs: spay/neuter, rabies vaccination, rescue and adoption, and community education for rabies safety and compassion.

Need

There are thousands of homeless dogs living on the streets of Dharamsala, many of them sick, injured, or starving. Dharamsala Animal Rescue (DAR) works to implement a humane prevention program called ABC (animal birth control, sterilization and vaccination) along with animal rescue and adoption programs. The lack of government support for this issue, the amount of dogs, and rabies killing humans (approx 20k per year) creates the human/street dog conflict that exists today.

Long term impact

Our vision: We strive to create a community where the people realize that the stray animal population can be managed with compassion and education. With mass sterilization and rabies vaccination programs we can create a healthy sustainable population of dogs. Through education and community interaction, we can teach people how to be kind to street dogs even they are afraid of them, eradicate rabies, and increase adoptions.

About the Organization

We seek a humane environment for animals with direct benefits to the communities of Himachal Pradesh, India. We work to end human deaths by rabies, provide humane animal control programs and community education.
