Give Health & Purpose to a Neglected Horse

Host Organization: Sound Equine Options Gresham, OR, United States http://www.soundequineoptions.org/

About

Sound Equine Options was founded in 2009 by Columbia Equine Hospital's veterinarian, Dr. Scott Hansen, and practice manager and veterinary technician, Kim Mosiman, to assist the growing number of area horse owners who could no longer afford to properly care for their animals. Since 2009, Sound Equine Options has grown into a licensed rescue focusing on ending the cycle of abuse, neglect, abandonment and suffering for local horses. Need

Currently horses in NW Oregon and SW Washington do not have a publicly provided safety net. There are no animal shelters in our area that can take in a horse should the owner no longer be able to provide for them. The economy has decreased the purchase price of these animals making it easy for people with "hoarder" mentalities to collect and then not be able to afford minimum standards of care. These factors along with others are leading to an increase in horse neglect in our community.

Long term impact

Sound Equine Options hopes to provide education and awareness of our programs and the neglect crisis in our community.

About the Organization

Sound Equine Options is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization that saves equine lives through support, education, rehabilitation, training and adoption.
