Saving Kenya's Environment Through Family Planning

Host Organization: Communities Health Africa Trust NANYUKI, LAIKIPIA REGION, Kenya http://www.chatafrica.org

About

Kenya has one of the highest population growths in the world and has a poverty rate of 45%. As a result, Kenya's natural resources are dwindling! The Community Health Africa Trust (CHAT) is one of the few aid organizations providing innovative and FREE family planning services combined with ecological awareness education to underserved, often nomadic communities in central and northern Kenya. In turn, we conserve natural resources and reduce suffering - especially among women and children.

Need

Poverty! A lack of access to family planning information and services contributes to poverty, suffering and environmental degradation, which negatively impacts communities and their surrounding ecosystems.

Long term impact

1. Increased access and use of family planning. 2. Enabled positive behaviour change increasing family planning uptake and environmental sustainability. 3. Increased empowerment and resilience of communities through self-sustaining governance structures.

About the Organization

CHAT'S mission is to support underserved individuals and communities in fragile ecosystems across Kenya to access family planning information and services.
