Project

Educate the Future Leaders of Sierra Leone

Host Organization: Develop Africa, Inc. Johnson City, Tennessee, United States http://www.developafrica.org

About

This project aims to empower students in Sierra Leone by offering vital educational support from Nursery School through College. Students receive the tools they need to excel academically through tuition aid, school supplies, books, uniforms, nutritional meals, solar lights, tutoring, classroom support, mentoring, and computer training. With this comprehensive assistance, they are better equipped to complete their education and become self-sufficient leaders in their communities.

Need

Sub-Saharan Africa faces a significant education exclusion challenge, with alarming statistics revealing a lack of access to education. More than one-fifth of children aged 6-11 are out of school, with one-third of youth aged 12-14 facing a similar fate. Alarmingly, almost 60% of youth aged 15-17 are not attending school, as per UNESCO data in 2021. Addressing this urgent issue is crucial, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in our pursuit of empowering future leaders.

Long term impact

Our project is not just a short-term fix; it represents a profound and enduring investment in the future. By offering quality educational opportunities to children and youths, we equip them with the tools to rise above poverty and become independent, informed decision-makers. This, in turn, enables them to make significant contributions to their families, communities, nation, and the world. Education reduces poverty and brings lasting empowerment and definite change.
