Emergency Medical Fund for Survivors at Hagar

Host Organization: Hagar USA, which supports the work of Hagar International Charlotte, NC, United States http://www.hagarusa.org

About

Hagar provides holistic healing for survivors of human trafficking and other human rights abuses. Occasionally this healing requires medical care. In some cases, a woman or child needs emergency medical care. This project will allow for emergency care for survivors in Hagar's care in Cambodia, Vietnam and Afghanistan.

Need

When women & children need emergency hospitalization, Hagar doesn't have a fund to cover the cost. Recently, Hagar received a call from the foster parents of Danet*, an 18-year-old female needing urgent hospitalization in Phnom Penh. She had swelling throughout her body, fever, loss of hair and appetite. She had been receiving treatment for dengue fever, with no improvement. Upon arrival the hospital indicated that her condition was potentially life-threatening and appeared to be lupus.

Long term impact

Girls like Danet will be free to dream. Danet has a dream to become a doctor, and now that she has passed the Grade 12 national exams her plan has been to apply for university in the very near future - depending on the speed of her recovery. With this fund, Danet will be able to pursue that dream.

About the Organization

Communities free and healed from the trauma of human trafficking, slavery, and abuse. For those affected by trauma, and those who support them, Hagar is an expert in care and recovery. When healing happens the cycle of trauma stops.
