Project

Water for Bandhavgarh's Tigers - Reducing Conflict

Host Organization: Tigers4Ever Warrington, United Kingdom https://tigers4ever.org/

About

Climate Change has led to severe drought becoming the norm in Bandhavgarh as annual monsoon rainfall reduces. The impact is felt by all when prey animals enter villages to drink/raid crops & predators follow taking livestock. Villagers can't afford these losses so they retaliate to end the conflict thus risking tigers' lives. Our project provides solar-powered borehole pumps to provide permanent water for wild tigers & their prey & solar PIR sensor lights to reduce human-animal conflict & impact

Need

In recent years Bandhavgarh has suffered multiple water crises due to erratic rainfall & long drought periods. Existing seasonal wildlife waterholes replenished by monsoon rains dry-out earlier each year. Wild animals go to villages in search of water which leads to further human-animal conflict as crops are raided & livestock taken. Each of our waterhole projects will provide water for 6 or more wild tigers & countless other wild animals whilst reducing human-wildlife conflict.

Long term impact

The lives of thousands of wild animals including more than 125 wild tigers will be saved by the year-round availability of water. Permanent wildlife waterholes reduce human-animal conflict and contribute to the conservation of the wild tigers' environment & sustainability of their habitat through ecologically focused actions.

About the Organization

Tigers4Ever's mission is to Give wild Tigers a wild Future. We do this by halting the decline of wild tiger populations by helping people living on the periphery of tiger territories, equipping forest patrols, providing anti-poaching patrols and providing permanent solutions to water scarcity for wildlife. All projects are geared towards protecting wild tigers in their natural habitat in India. We work with local communities & the Forest Department to build a future where people live in harmony with and have an enhanced understanding of tigers.
