Japan Disaster: Relief & Recovery
About
Peace Winds is one of the leading organizations in Japan conducting emergency disaster response as well as long-term disaster recovery activities. It is currently accepting donations to respond to the January 1, 2024, earthquake in Ishikawa, Japan as well as for its broader disaster preparedness work.
Need
Japan is one of the world's most disaster prone countries, and it needs professional responders with the capacity to rapidly dispatch to conduct search and rescue, provide emergency medical care, and support the needs of disaster survivors. In the latest disaster, a powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck Ishikawa Prefecture's Noto Peninsula on January 1, 2024, destroying homes and buildings and severing transportation links.
Long term impact
Natural disasters are only going to continue to strike Japan, and Peace Winds knows the importance of staying prepared. Peace Winds teams in Japan also offer preparedness programs, including disaster response trainings, webinars and articles about how to best prepare, and community-centered activities where adults and children can come together to share their knowledge and experience in creative ways.
About the Organization
Our core belief is that disaster response begins with preparedness, and that both disaster preparedness and response should integrate the efforts of governments, militaries, NGOs and the private sector. By strengthening disaster preparedness, response and recovery, Peace Winds seeks to reduce the high human, political and economic costs of natural disasters and man-made conflicts around the world.
