Support vulnerable families in rural Afghanistan
About
Forty years of war and insecurity, chronic poverty, repeated droughts and the COVID-19 pandemic had already had a devastating impact on the people of Afghanistan. Now, more than three years on from the Taliban takeover, for many millions of families, the humanitarian emergency shows little sign of abating. We are raising funds to deliver vital emergency relief and wider development support to families in some of the most remote, underserved areas of the country.
Need
Economic collapse, brought about by reduced development assistance and the imposition of financial sanctions following the Taliban takeover has made life unimaginably challenging for men, women and children across Afghanistan. Over the past few years, extreme drought, mounting debt, rising unemployment and this unfolding economic crisis has resulted in acute levels of food insecurity, with 14.8 million people currently not eating enough food.
Long term impact
Helping families grow food, find safe shelter, and stay clean and healthy is crucial first step in helping them rebuild their lives after losing their homes and livelihoods, and therefore be able to contribute to the wider development of their communities. Alongside our emergency relief work, our long-term development projects and community-led approach means your donation will invest in change that lasts.
About the Organization
Afghanaid is a British humanitarian and development organisation established in 1983. For over 40 years, we have worked in Afghanistan with millions of families in some of the poorest and most remote communities. Our mission is to provide rural Afghans with the training and tools they need to help themselves, their families and their communities. We support basic service provision, improve livelihoods, empower women, help communities protect against climate change, and respond to humanitarian crises. In 2025, Afghanaid will be working in 18 provinces in Afghanistan. In any one year we reach well over a million people with our support. Afghanaid employs around 500 staff, 97% of whom are Afghans.
