Sunstone Way operates 5 homeless shelters which help over 270 individuals experiencing homelessness in Portland each day. Our programs provide safety, dignity, and care for those who were living on the streets of Portland. Our services offer individuals behavioral health support, peer support, and housing navigation, as well as a hot meal every day. Our shelters have helped over 300 participants find permanent housing opportunities.
The city of Portland is estimated to have over 6,297 people experiencing homelessness in 2023. The impact of the pandemic has made safe shelter limited and difficult to access. Providing safe low-barrier shelter services helps those experiencing homelessness move towards efficacy and resiliency. Shelter acts as an entry point to resources and potential permanent housing. Supporting this project will enable us to provide basic shelter supplies to our participants.
This funding will enable us to provide critical shelter supplies to our 270 participants and will help us supplement meals with additional food resources. Supporting wellness activities and additional comforts of home makes a participants time in shelter a time for growth and builds their self-worth. By increasing a participants self-sufficiency, we increase their long-term housing retention.
We partner with neighbors to unlock a sustainable sense of home and transform lives, communities, and futures with holistic resource navigation. We provide low-barrier shelter for those experiencing houselessness combined with wrap around services including behavioral health support, peer support, resource navigation, and case management.
