School Environment Improvement Program - Nepal

Host Organization: Environmental Camps for Conservation Awareness Lalitpur, Bagmati, Nepal https://ecca.org.np/

About

ECCA initiated School Environment Improvement Program in the year 2000. Experience has shown that enrollment of students increases and is maintained when facilities (toilets, water, greenery) are improved. Training teachers is also required to effectively manage the classrooms, develop positive relationship with children and community, and facilitate curriculum that leads to better knowledge of sustainable living. A common vision for the development of school is also required.

Need

Due to lack of proper facilities in the school, students lack the motivation / interest to come to school daily. Because of which, many students (especially girl students who reach puberty) drop-out from school. Also, lack of proper toilet and water facilities contributes toward spreading of water borne diseases.

Long term impact

The school / community is seeking support to help them improve the standards of their schools' facilities and the provision of quality education so they might not only cope with the rise in student population, but also gain the knowledge and skills to empower them to take charge of their own future. The project will benefit the overall education system and will contribute toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on "Quality Education".
