Manhattan Circumnavigation Swimrun for YSR
About
On September 20, in partnership with Urban Swim and Running for Refugees NYC, Nargus, an Iranian-American and therapist connected with the struggle of immigrants and refugees will attempt a 100km circumnavigation of Manhattan by water and land, a first-of-its-kind challenge. This effort is dedicated to refugees who risk their lives seeking safety, aiming to raise funds for Yoga and Sport with Refugees who offer safe spaces for refugees to foster a sense of community and work on their well-being.
Need
Forced migrants in Greece have faced increasingly dire conditions in recent years, reflecting the broader European and global response to the refugee crisis. The Greek asylum process has been plagued by delays, with lengthy waiting periods for interviews and decisions. This has left many asylum seekers in a state of limbo, often for years at a time. We're dedicating our efforts to refugees everywhere, who often traverse land and water in search of safety, carrying little else but hope.
Long term impact
As refugee health improves, we are able to develop and exchange valuable skills, such as coaching. This helps break down barriers as it gives refugees an avenue to interact and exchange across social, cultural and economic boundaries. Lastly, we believe that sport can be a meaningful platform for social change. Through thoughtful and intentional sharing of beneficiary stories, we aim to humanise the refugee experience and advocate for dignified refugee policy throughout Greece and Europe.
