Close the Lunch Gap: Feed Hungry Students!
About
Nearly 14 million U.S. children live with hunger, and for many, school meals are the only reliable food they get each day. Rising costs and shrinking supports push families into lunch debt, leaving kids at risk of being denied meals, stigmatized in front of their peers, or simply going without. One mom shared, "Free meals meant I could buy groceries that lasted until payday." Families like hers cannot keep up alone - no child should be punished for being poor.
Need
Across the U.S., 12 million students risk losing access to free or reduced-price meals. With grocery prices climbing-78% of families say food costs more than last year-parents are forced to make painful trade-offs between meals, gas, or utilities. Children arrive at school hungry, unable to focus, struggling with attendance, and falling behind in class.
Long term impact
When children have access to nutritious school meals, they thrive-showing up ready to learn, performing better in class, and building healthier futures. Together, we can prevent hunger today while breaking the cycle of poverty for tomorrow's generation.
