Strengthening Families, Safeguarding Futures

Host Organization: Free to Shine LTD Tewantin, Queensland, Australia https://www.freetoshine.org/educated-girls

About

At Free To Shine, we build capacity within communities by equipping families with the knowledge needed to create safe environments for children. Through community training sessions, we address critical topics such as child protection, the negative impacts of drugs and alcohol, safe migration, gender-based violence, and gender equity. By engaging entire communities, we aim to create a sustainable safety net that ensures children, especially girls, can thrive in a supportive environment.

Need

In rural areas, many families and communities lack awareness of the risks their children face, such as trafficking, abuse, and unsafe migration. Harmful practices such as gender inequality and domestic violence also pose significant risks to children's well-being and education. Without access to proper education and community engagement programs, families struggle to identify and respond to these threats, leaving girls particularly vulnerable to exploitation and early dropout from school.

Long term impact

The long-term impact of this project goes beyond immediate safety. Families equipped with knowledge are empowered to break cycles of poverty and violence, ensuring a brighter future for their children. Over time, the communities we work with will experience lower rates of trafficking, violence, and exploitation, creating a positive ripple effect that transforms not only individual lives but entire generations.

About the Organization

We prevent the trafficking and exploitation of girls, by strengthening family and community systems to prioritise the safety and education of their children.
