Volunteer Tutors Needed for Adult ESL & GED Classes- Burnsville
About
Help adult learners achieve their educational goals by becoming a tutor at ISD 191 School for Adults! We serve learners who are 17 years of age or older and are not enrolled in regular secondary school programs.
This Fall 2024, we are planning for mostly in-person classes: morning, evening, and afternoon with some online only opportunties as well.
The major components of our Adult Basic Education (ABE) program include: English as a Second Language (ESL), Basic Skills (math, reading, and writing skills), GED preparation and testing, Citizenship preparation, Digital Literacy Skills (computer basics), a Pre-CNA Class, Adult Drivers Education (studying for the Class D Knowledge Test) and Para Pro Prep and Testing.
Flexible morning, afternoon, and evening hours are available. Most classes are Monday-Thursday, but there is a Citizenship Class and Computer Class on Friday morning. Morning class times are Mon.-Thurs. 9:30-12:30, afternoon classes are Mon-Thurs, 1:00-3:30pm, and evening classes are T,Th from 6:00-9:00pm.
We are looking for volunteers to help students in small groups or 1:1 work on their reading, listening, speaking, and academic skills. Most volunteers tutor in one class per week. We are also looking for volunteers that can help with onboarding online students such as: student email, google classroom, and gooogle meet!
We are also looking for some tech savvy volunteers who would be willing to assist students with accessing their district email accounts, google classroom, and online learning platforms! We would love someone to help with this once a week in the morning or evening. We also have an opening for a computer lab volunteer, that would offer an open lab time and assist students with creating documents, navigating web pages, and typing or Moby Max Practice.
