Giving Compass' Take:
• Through advances in education, the transgender community, stopping crime, public transportation or many areas of politics, Global Citizen shines a light on 10 trailblazing women who made history by breaking boundaries in 2018.
• How can we learn from these women's positive efforts? In what ways will these advances help bridge our societal gender gap?
• Here's why achieving gender equity requires working with both women and men.
Women broke countless records around the world in 2018. More than 100 women won seats in the United States House of Representatives during the midterm elections, and globally, women have taken over prominent new roles for the first time, not just in politics, but also the media and the private sector.
While gender inequality remains prevalent in many governments, on TV, and in the corporate world, these 10 women have shown that it is possible to break glass ceilings and advance gender equality:
- Mia Mottley
- Marvia Malik
- Epsy Campbell Barr
- London Breed
- Claudia Sheinbaum
- Stacey Cunningham
- Sahle-Work Zewde
- Rashida Tlaib
- Ilhan Omar
- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
