Giving Compass' Take:

Alfred Tobin, writing for Medium, lists three recommendations for donors who would like to pursue philanthropic initiatives.

One of Tobin's recommendations is about spreading awareness about a cause. What vehicles or spaces do funders have to collaborate on addressing the same issues?

Here is a framework for impactful philanthropy.

Outside of being Executive Vice President at Alliant Insurance Services, Alfred Tobin is an active philanthropist for several charities including Tuesday’s Children and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Alfred Tobin takes the time to understand the causes he’s invested in to help find aid and a cure. In spite of his busy schedule, Tobin spends time with the communities he serves to learn and gain insight on major issues.

When it comes to being an inspired philanthropist, Tobin is able to shed light on supporting local, national and global causes. There’s a lot that goes into making meaningful contributions. Here are some things to consider:

  • For starters, you have to choose your cause. Philanthropy is about having genuine care in the communities you wish to serve.
  • Think about the underlying issues of the cause and figure out how your donation could be used efficiently.
  • A large part of having an impact is spreading awareness. The more people involved in helping a cause, the better our chances are at achieving what needs to be done.
