Black women have a deep history of using philanthropy as a lever to create social change. From tithing in our churches to sharing our time, talent, and treasure with family members, to donating to causes and campaigns, to leading some of the biggest institutional philanthropies in the U.S., we understand the power of the purse to address immediate needs and create structural change. Unfortunately, many folks don’t know about our role as givers and philanthropists. This is driven, in part, because of the confusion around what philanthropy is and how it shows up differently in communities. Giving Compass and BlackHer are partnering to tell the story of the continuum of Black women’s philanthropy and showcase Black women who are leveraging their love of humanity to create progressive change!
