Project

Educate Girls in Zambia on Gender Equity

Host Organization: chance4all Lusaka, Zambia http://chance4all.org

About

The project aims to remove barriers that prevent girls from accessing education by addressing the underlying causes of their limited participation. Through school sessions and safe counseling groups, students-including teenage boys-gain awareness and understanding of gender equity. By fostering an inclusive learning environment, the initiative seeks to reduce the number of out-of-school girls, empowering them to pursue their education and secure a brighter future.

Need

Girls experience higher rates of exclusion from education than boys, and are most likely to never attend or drop out of school. One of the reasons is limited resources. Parents tend to prefer educating a boy child rather than a girl child. Girls who have reached puberty also tend to miss out on school time during their menstrual cycle, for the stigma attached to this occurrence, but also for the limited availability of menstrual products and poor water and sanitation facilities in the schools.

Long term impact

The project will address safeguarding issues such as gender equality, child protection & gender inclusion, creating awareness of sexual health education in our Community and could be extended to other community schools. The project will educate girls about their basic human rights, benefits of not dropping out of school, their well-being, safety and the part they can play in making their community a better place.

About the Organization

Our aim is to be the facilitators between out of school children with educational needs and sponsors willing to help them. With that purpose we have set up a simple framework to identify genuine cases of children outside the schooling system, we match them with suitable sponsors, and make sure funds are properly utilized.
